Our official national charity partner

We are delighted to announce that the RAF Benevolent Fund will resume as our official national charity partner for the 2017 Spitfire Scramble.

Our connections to the Fund are strong, with our venue at Hornchurch Country Park having been home to RAF Hornchurch and Suttons Airfield before that, where several RAF squadrons were based.

During the Battle of Britain, the base was home to a number of Spitfire squadrons who played a part in that famous period of British history.

The RAF Benevolent Fund has been there, through thick and thin, supporting the RAF family since its foundation in 1919. As an independent charity that receives no regular Government funding, the Fund relies entirely on supporters to continue its work.

The principal activities of the RAF Benevolent Fund are:

  • To provide assistance to the RAF family, when they are in need.

  • To support the morale and wellbeing of the serving RAF.

  • To be responsible for the Bomber Command Memorial in central London.

  • To maintain and preserve the RAF Memorial in London on behalf of the nation.

The charity provides a spectrum of services that range from their Airplay programme, supporting children growing up on RAF stations, to relationship counselling for RAF couples and respite breaks for RAF families and veterans.

The Fund also supports members of the Air Cadet Organisation (ACO), including members of the Combined Cadet Force RAF component, if they are injured whilst on duty.

With the history of our venue as RAF Hornchurch, we are thrilled to be partnering with a cause that aims to help those who have given – and continue to give – service in the traditions of those who served before them.

If you would like to raise funds for the RAF Benevolent Fund while running the 2017 Spitfire Scramble, we are offering you a 15% discount off the entry fee.

To claim your discount, you will need to set up a fundraising page for the event and nominate the RAF Benevolent Fund as your chosen charity. The charity will then be in touch with your discount code to apply during the sign up process.
